This is the zone most exposed to light, and as such is host to the highest concentrations of the ocean's life. There are thousands of animals that roam this zone, including dolphins, most sharks, jellyfish, tuna and corals. Webthat the ocean is most productive in the upper 200 meters (656 feet), where solar energy is available. Beyond this photic zone, organisms rely on energy from other sources. These other sources can include sulfur-eating bacteria and dead or decaying organic matter that sinks down from the photic zone.
