Now the temperature is kept separately for the contact patch and the entire tire surface, so lockup heats up the contact area much faster which reduces grip. Also, the temperature drops rapidly upon releasing the brake and allowing wheel rotation.

There is no logic in evaluating cold tire temp (except for Autocross acrobatics which are short stints running mostly on cold tires) The temperature ALWAYS have to be read only after the tires have warmed up (3~5 laps). WebA track temp of ~70f has the leaders pace at 1.31ish but a track temp of ~109 has the leaders pace at 1.33ish. I am not that fast, being about a second or so off the pace in both conditions. But somehow on the hot track I noticed I was placing much, much better. From P9-P13 on a cold track to P3-P6 on a hot one.

If you heat them past that you will start losing grip. So at Laguna for example, one warm up lap and then a flying lap are enough to get the tyres into the window for the 2nd lap. 2 warm up laps heats them up too much.
